Goshute Indians encoutered few white people until the Mormons settled near Goshute Territory. Mormon settlemet displaced Ute Indians who were forced from their homeland and into Goshute land. This caused scarce natural resources. Goshutes responded by raiding Mormon settlement and stealing live stock. The Mormons got back at the Goshutes by raiding their encampments to retrieve the goods that were stolen from them sometimes ending in indian casualties.

The Government was intent on removing the Indians. Goshute indians then recieved reservation land.
